Concrete form is a solid barrier that helps to keep the fluid concrete in place until it hardens and acquires a specific shape. The concrete formwork system has many kinds according to different materials, and the method of selecting one usually depends on the project specifications. Now, there are some new concrete formwork systems are developed, therefore, it is imperative to know different kinds of concrete formwork systems.
Here is the content list:
• Timber formwork for concrete slab forms
• Concrete wall forms
• Insulated concrete formwork
• Decorative concrete foam formwork
Timber formwork for concrete slab forms
Timber formwork is the most basic and oldest type of concrete slab formand is still used extensively in the construction of small structures.
A timber formwork consists of boards (usually plywood) that can be screwed or nailed to additional stakes, which are usually made of wood and steel. To use a timber formwork, the stakes are driven into the prepared subgrade and the formwork is set to the proper level or slope using a leveling device.
To pour concrete with curves or any free-form design, forms are made with a thin cross-section. Before placing the concrete, the inner surface is coated with low-grade oil or any release agent so that the concrete does not stick to the surface.
Concrete wall forms
Concrete wall forms are used for pouring walls or larger structures, such as when constructing bridge piers or building foundations. Concrete wall form systems are usually made of engineered wood and reinforced with metal framing, or consist of an all-metal body. These systems sometimes referred to as group-forming systems, are designed to be attached and form a uniform structure using a system of latches or pins. In addition, prefabricated wall systems also use a tie bar when securing reinforcement in place within the wall formwork to secure one section to another as the wall is poured.
Insulated concrete formwork
An insulated concrete formwork system consists of a hollow block of insulating material that is assembled and filled with concrete, then further reinforced with steel.
The insulated concrete formwork system is constructed using a foundation slab that remains in place and becomes the foundation and façade system. Once the insulation blocks are placed, a metal reinforcing mesh is placed within the block wall structure and finally, water-mixed or "high-slump" concrete is poured into the block wall structure. Insulated concrete formwork is very energy efficient and the foam concrete sandwich is very durable and suitable for walls, roofs, and even floors.
Decorative foam concrete formwork
Decorative foam concrete formwork system is often made of melamine, laminate, acrylic glass, or screw-mounted material on large panels. Special inserts are often attached to the inside of the formwork to provide decorative edges or artistic relief.
