China is a true friend of Africa, a friend that stands by us in times of need, and Africa-China co-operation has set a model for international co-operation.
Since the founding of the Forum on China-Africa Co-operation (FOCAC) 20 years ago, China-aided infrastructure projects have spread all over Africa, and countless builders have left their footprints in Africa, with ‘China-built’ buildings rising from the ground.
Algeria Grand Mosque of Karma
The project is located on the central axis of Algiers, the capital of Algeria, adjacent to the Mediterranean Sea. It covers an area of 400,000 square metres and includes a 37,000-seat prayer hall, the world's tallest minaret at 265 metres, a library, a cultural centre and 12 other buildings. With a daily capacity of 120,000 visitors, the Gama Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in Africa and the third largest in the world. In October 2011, China State Construction Corporation (hereinafter referred to as CSCEC) won the project with the first place in the combined score of the technical and commercial bids.
In March 2017, the main structure of the Great Mosque Minaret was topped out, setting a new record for the tallest building in Africa.
Congo Kindele Sports Centre
Located on the northern outskirts of Congo's capital, Brazzaville, the project consists of a main stadium, an annexed stadium, a swimming pool and other outdoor venues. The main stadium can accommodate 60,000 spectators simultaneously.
The design is inspired by the sun, and cleverly integrates the geological and cultural characteristics of Africa into the design, using the change of site elevation to create a variety of spatial levels, creating a comfortable and interesting indoor and outdoor environments.
Tanzania National Stadium
Located in the western part of Dar es Salaam city, the project covers an area of 12 hectares, with a building area of about 68,000 square metres and a total investment of RMB 408.5 million. It can accommodate 60,000 people at the same time, and meets the requirements for hosting intercontinental games, FIFA and IAAF competitions.
The Tanzanian National Stadium has a novel design and beautiful shape, using a large number of new technologies and materials. The project started in 2004 and took three years to complete. At the peak of construction, there were more than 1,000 Chinese and 1,000 Tanzanian workers working simultaneously.
The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is an effective platform for practical cooperation between African countries and China. Since its establishment in 2000, FOCAC has operated efficiently and fruitfully, bringing tangible benefits to the people of both sides. China is a true friend of Africa, a friend that stands by us when Africa is in need, and Africa-China cooperation has set a model for international cooperation.
